Bowie Woman Run Over by Own Car
Marie Surowicz, 86, suffered fatal injuries after her own vehicle backed over her in the St. Edwards Catholic Church parking lot Sunday.

A Bowie woman was killed when her own car backed over her in the parking lot of St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church on Sunday afternoon, according to Bowie police.
Marie Surowicz, 86, suffered fatal injuries after attempting to park her car at the church. Witnesses told police that Surowicz exited her car after parking it in the lot, and that the car began rolling backwards. The car’s driver’s side door, which was still open, struck Surowicz causing her to lose her balance. The car then inadvertently struck Surowicz, witnesses told police.
Surowicz was found on the pavement without a pulse by police at around 11:30 a.m. and transported to the Bowie Health Center where she was pronounced dead.

Patch may want to fix this article...first sentence says the pedestrian was killed on FRIDAY and then later in the article states SUNDAY...Sunday is the correct day this sad accident actually happened.

I was there. I just wanted to say to the family that I am sorry for your loss, and for you to know that she was surrounded by parishioners who were cops, medical personnel, and even a doctor, who aided her before the ambulance arrived, as well as parishioners at the scene offering their prayers. This was my first time at St. Edwards ( I think I attended once years ago), but I could tell she was a lovely lady who loved the Church, dressed in her Sunday best.

Marie and her husband Tom were both extremely kind and generous. True Christians of genteel demeanor who loved their family and served the poor. They were shining examples and role model Catholics.

Marie was my dear friend and I will miss her deeply, she was such a kind, giving, caring soul. My only comfort lies in knowing that she is now with the Lord, and with her husband for whom she lit a candle weekly after Mass. Rest in peace, Marie.
