Catch Some Culture This Weekend

A plethora of concerts, open mic nights and a musical brunch set the stage for Hyattsville's art and culture scene this weekend.

 

Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012

 8 p.m. - Sistas Take Da Mic - Urban Eats Arts and Music Cafe - No cover 

An open mic night for all the talented women of the metro area. Tonight's open mic features Peyton Naomi Leonard. 

9 p.m. - Thursday Night Open Mic Poetry - Busboys and Poets - $5 cover - 

It's Busboy's weekly open mic poetry jam. Poets can get on the list beginning at 8:30 p.m.

7:30 p.m. - Wall-Eyed, Nomad - Urban Eats Arts and Music Cafe - No cover, donations accepted

Local indie rockers Wall-Eyed open for Nomad, an eclectic, electric mix-tape take on world music. 

10 p.m. - Talent Showcase Open Mic hosted by Y'anna Crawley - Busboys and Poets - $5 cover -

Every third Friday of the month, Busboy's in Hyattsville opens its stage to performers of all stripes. Musicians, comedians, dancers and other performers are invited. Sign up list opens at 9:30 p.m.

1-3 p.m. - Winter & Wood Sculpture Exhibition Reception - Prince George's Plaza Community Center - no cover - 

Featuring winter themed art from the Hyattsville Community Arts Alliance and wood sculpture from local artist Richard Brown. 

5-7 p.m. - Rock Around the Clock Jumpin' Jukebox Party - Hyattsville Municipal Building - $5 cover - 

A parent and child dance perfect for the young ones in your family. The event is geared for children aged 3-10 years. Poodle skirts, saddle shoes optional. Reservations are encouraged. Call 301-985-5020 to RSVP.

11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. - Sunday Brunch Music with Fiddla - Urban Eats Cafe

Mixing classical, R&B, and afro-latin influences, Fiddla makes for a delightfully mellow music to munch some brunch to. Brunch served from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. 

5 p.m. - Borderlines; A Bilngual Spanish-English Open Mic for All Performers - Busboys and Poets - $5 cover - 

Hosted by Henry Mills, this open mic welcomes anyone who speaks either language to show off their skills in any performance medium you choose. Sign up begins at 4:30 p.m.
