Northwestern Band Crushes Opponents at Williamsburg Festival
The school's band swept the top awards last weekend.
Northwestern High School’s concert, jazz, string and percussion musicians went to Williamsburg High School’s festival on May 7 and crushed the competition.
The musicians won first place over all, and first place in:
- High school concert band;
- Jazz ensemble;
- Concert band (superior rating);
- String orchestra;
- Percussion ensemble;
- Outstanding High School Jazz Soloist: Jabari Edwards on steel pan.
There were about 56 student participants from Northwestern in this competition. Anthony Townes is the school’s band director.

It's ashame that the news media reports about DeMatha today on the news. But no mention of Northwestern Senior High School Band. Don't get me wrong I'm proud that DeMatha was mentioned. I'm certain there could have been just a few more minutes to mention Northwestern too. The public schools in Prince George's County get no respect when due.
