Not much is better than mom's apple pie. Or if you're in Leesburg, Va., that's Mom's Apple Pie Company – bakery, coffee and incredible pie.
And that's what we got.
I had wanted to try this place for years since I'd made a jaunt out to Leesburg scouting for a job.
Finally, the time had arrived.
I threw the dog in the car, hopped on the Beltway and drove down Leesburg Pike and parked.
I wanted something chocolate, but my best bet (It was late in the day and most of the slices were gone) was a slice of Boston crème pie.
Before paying I carefully selected a peanut butter cookie for Toby (What Lab doesn't love PB?).
Back at the car I set down my bag of goodies and brought Toby out to stretch and get his cookie. But as soon as I'd had one bite of pie, I knew that it would be my last.
I wasn't smart about it – a food freak like Toby would not let a slice of creamy pie just sit there while his "mom" pulled a hapless cookie out of the bag.
Instead, he hopped up onto the car and scarfed the whole piece in about 1.2 bites.
How could I be angry at that pie-splattered face?
So I made due with my peanut butter cookie, stowed Toby back in the car and thought about going back in for a second slice.
