County High School Diplomas Include Misspelling
The diplomas of all 8,000 Prince George's County Public School high schools' graduates contained a misspelling of the word "program." PGCPS became aware of the error sometime last week and although they say they've notified students and parents, Patch commenters are telling a different story. The vendor, National Quality Products, will pay for the reprinting of the diplomas and students should receive them in about six weeks, according to an apology letter issued by the vendor to PGCPS.

Riverdale Man Charged With Fleeing Apartment Crash
David Archbald Smith, 39, is facing a litany of charges after allegedly crashing his car into a Riverdale Road apartment building last week and fleeing the scene of the accident. A woman inside the apartment was thrown from her bed by the impact but suffered only minor injuries.

Greenbelt City Council Adopts Fiscal Year 2013 Budget
By a 6-0 vote (Councilman Edward Putens was not in attendance), the Greenbelt City Council passed the FY2013 budget which includes $24,961,600 in expenditures and projects $25,492,700 in revenues.

New Law Enforcement Cameras Arrive In Laurel
A pair of speed cameras has appeared on the roadways of South Laurel. As part of a plan to add more than 70 speed cameras throughout the county, the Prince George's County Department of Public Works and Transportation has set up cameras along Route 197/Laurel Bowie Road near Deerfield Run Elementary School.

In Upper Marlboro, Capital Project Budget Doubled
The Town of Upper Marlboro could be getting a facelift, thanks to the $184,000 set aside in the fiscal year 2013 budget for capital projects. The funds are more than double last year’s $90,000 capital project budget and will be for things like an addition to the town hall, renovation of an old parking lot on Church Street, and the removal of an old water pump house on school lane.
