Two Northwestern Students Involved in Stabbing Near High School
The school was put on lockdown for the afternoon.
Two Northwestern High School students were involved in a stabbing off school property Wednesday afternoon.
According to Prince George's County Police, the 17-year-old suspect stabbed another 17-year-old student around 2:56 p.m. in the 6700 block of Belcrest Road. The injured teen was transported to a local hospital. The victim has non life-threatening injuries, according to police.
Police said that multiple suspects have been aprehended and interviewed in connection with the incident.
Prince George's County Schools Spokesman Briant Coleman confirmed that both the victim and the suspect involved were students at Northwestern High School, but he said the stabbing did not occur on school property.
The school was however put on lockdown as a precaution, Coleman added, but they were dismissed at their regular time.
He said Prince George's County Police are taking the lead on the investigation.

My first thought when I read this? TIME TO MOVE!!! I spent too much money on rent to be living a few blocks from where stabbings happen in broad daylight.

Isn't that a bit reactionary? I grew up in Hyattsville, and crime happens here, just like it happens in my small college town in West Virginia. But I don't feel unsafe around here, not by a long shot. In fact, there's a lot less crime now than there used to be. The violent crime rate has been on a 30 year tumble in this country.

Very sad but Northwestern is not isolated from students who will do this. It wasn't done on school property so that is a plus to me.

It is unfortunate that this happened. But, there are 2600 kids in that school...most of them are great kids. There are a few that have some issues. My son attends NW and we are very happy with the school. Mr. Batenga is doing a fantastic job there!!!
