UPDATE: Rose Leaving Hyattsville to Spend More Time with Family in Texas
The City Council is expected to name an acting city administrator on Oct. 10.
A resignation letter stated that Hyattsville City Administrator Gregory Rose is leaving his position to go home to Texas and spend more time with his family, city spokeswoman Abby Sandel said.
Rose, who hailed from a similar position in North Las Vegas, replaced Elaine Murphy, who had held the spot in Hyattsville for more than 11 years.
Rose is originally from Jefferson, TX, and has worked with municipal governments in Warrensburg and University City, MO, and in North Las Vegas, according to a report from the Hyattsville Life & Times.
He recently told Patch that his wife and young children were still living in Texas, due to his wife's undisclosed illness.
Sandel, who is currently also serving as acting director of recreation and the arts for the city, said she will not be tapped for the acting administrator spot. The council is expected to make an announcement Oct. 10 about who will stand in until the spot is filled.
Rose is leaving his post on Oct. 7 but will be paid through Jan. 18, when his contract officially ends.
Controversy clouded his departure from North Las Vegas, where media reports stated that he received just more than $337,000 in severance pay. In that position, Rose was placed on administrative leave for just more than a month before he resigned, about four years before his contract was due to expire.
He served there for about six years, reports stated.
A deal brokered between Rose and that city specified that if North Las Vegas chose to remove him before his contract was up, it would pay him one year’s salary plus accrued vacation and sick time. His salary was $202,060, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
The city of North Las Vegas also would pay the cost of health, dental and vision insurance premiums for Rose and his dependents for one year, the newspaper reported.
It is not yet known if Rose will receive similar stipulations from Hyattsville, but Patch will update you as more information becomes available.
