We have a new poll for the state of Maryland that dives into how Marylanders feel about the ballot questions we will be voting on in November. Gonzales Research usually takes a few days before posting poll results to its website, but Maryland Reporter did post the actual poll results document at its website. Boiling it down to what this means for the actual ballot questions and how they would turn out assuming the results match the expected way people would vote on the questions, here are those results:
QUESTION 4 - DREAM ACT
Yes 58%
No 34%QUESTION 6 - SAME SEX MARRIAGE
Yes 51%
No 43%QUESTION 7 - EXPANDED GAMBLING
Yes 45%
No 46%
The questions on Same Sex Marriage and the Dream Act are pretty clear cut. If you are in favor or oppose either issue, your vote in November is clear. Interestingly in this poll, 17% of Republicans favor same-sex marriage, roughly one out of every five Republicans you run across will support same-sex marriage and appear to be ready to vote in favor it this year, including yours truly.
I think the one is many people, like me, have no issue with expanded gambling in the state of Maryland but might have problems with the way it is being implemented. The vote on this issue is a little more muddled because you might agree with the end goal, but the process to get there makes a lot of people think twice about voting in favor of this question.
I, for one, have been surprised at the seeming lack of any advertising on either side for the Same Sex Marriage issue or the "Dream Act" issue. Every television ad and mailer that I have seen related to the ballot questions this year has been solely focused on Question 7 regarding the gambling issue. Is everyone else experiencing the same?
The other item of note that I briefly mentioned in my previous post regarding a new poll from YouGov concerns the US Senate race and how much impact the Independent candidate Rob Sobhani will have. I think even the most hard core Republican would tell you Maryland is a tough state for Republicans, but I brought up the fact that the YouGov poll did not include Rob Sobhani, who as far as I can tell, is the only candidate running advertising this year on television (at least from what I have seen). In this latest poll from Gonzales Research, Sobhani is included and is actually threatening to surpass the Republican candidate Dan Bongino in the polls.
US SENATE - MARYLAND (Gonzales)
Ben Cardin (D-inc) 50%
Dan Bongino (R) 22%
Rob Sobhani (I) 21%
I have heard Bongino speak and he is an impressive candidate taking the fact that he is running in Maryland out of the equation, but the truth is I rarely see him outside of political-oriented events. I see Rob Sobhani all over the television, which is the way most Maryland voters get their political news. My wife, who pays a lot less attention to Maryland politics than I do, has commented on how many times she has seen him on TV and asked me who he is. She has never asked me who Dan Bongino is. Again, it will be tough for either Bongino or Sobhani to defeat Cardin, but the fact that Sobhani appears to have reached at least 20% shows this carpet bombing of television ads is working to get his name out there.
This poll was done September 17-23 among 813 registered voters with a margin of error of +/- 3.5%. Maryland Reporter has the full results here.

Since Dan Bongino is not independently wealthy, he is still campaigning and raising money for his ads to be run on television. Anyone can see plenty of Dan Bongino on YouTube and get a real solid impression of what he stands for.

OooOBubbles....have you lost your ever lovin' champagne corK????? In the past month Sobhani has spent more on media buys than even Ben Cardin did before the Primary!!! Sobhani is filthy rich and he thinks he can win an election in this state by doing just commercials that say absolutely nothing about what he stands for or what he envisions for Marylanders or the nation. The man has zero ground forces (i.e....support army of volunteers throughout the state who can work to get votes for him). He won;t go out and do the hard work that Dan Bongino has done to capture voters hearts and minds. He is going to try to say as little about himself as possible in the hopes that passive voters who's participation in their country's future elected officials is limited to expensively priced "sound bites" on a dumb commercial.

The guy deserves a spot at the table of every debate.
Also, no Republican "insider," IMHO, should be supporting either the "Dream" act or gay marriage. Legal MD and US citizens cannot afford to go to the U of MD now without giving in-state rates to the offspring of illegals, no matter how long they are here.
Homosexual "marriage," sorry....no! I would fully support every: right, responsibility and benefit of marriage for homosexuals but not when their unions are called/defined as "marriage."
Change the wording to "civil unions" and I'm in full support. For anyone in the state party leadership who publicly takes a supportive position on either of these issues, I believe as a party member that they should be relieved of their position.
It's bad enough this is a one party state with enough Democratic corruption over the years. Republicans need not accept Democratic positions as well. If any do, please change your registration and become another Democrat.

Not from where I'm sitting he isn't. He is trying the same old game of praying that the average Joe Blow Maryland voter is a sucker for a high priced commercial that is without substance or a vision for the future. Tell me....so what have you really learned about Sobhani in three 15 second commercials that has you so fired up to want to throw your vote away on this guy? I learned that he has a lot of money and jumped in because he felt he could wait until the bitter end of a campaign and see if he can siphon off votes from either Democrat or Republican candidate. I'm voting for Dan Bongino because he has gone out and worked hard for the past 18 months to build a great ground-swell of support throughout the state. I won't vote for Ben Cardin, but I can respect him a lot more than Sobhani. At least Ben has been out actively campaigning and Sobhani hasn't.

David, I have a couple of issues with your comments. First off, if the Republican leadership (of which you are one) would have gotten behind Bongino strongly enough right after the Primary, maybe he would have raised enough money to run more TV sooner, if he so desired. I really don't know if he would have wanted to. But don't fret, tune in to TV TONIGHT. Second, maybe the reason you have not seen him "outside Political oriented events" is that you have failed to follow and support him enough to care. I have seen him or have heard of him at just about ever public event (even non political events) being held all over Maryland (Festivals, Oriole Games, Raven's games, crab fests, and you name it, throwing out the first pitch at minor league games, etc etc.) BONGINO HAS BEEN ALL OVER THIS STATE Dave, and it's YOUR fault that you don't know about it. It is about time that Republican Central Committees all over this state get behind OUR candidate for US Senate! Get off your duff! It's not too late. Have you signed up for the fundraiser at the Pope's residence on OCT 8 yet? And Finally, I'd like to know who this Gonzales "poll" actually polled.

I suggest folks go to hear him at every turn and from both sides of the political aisle... Many have, and have been extremely pleasantly surprised!

So David you are a MDGOP insider? Shame on you for not supporting the candidates who have been chosen by the Republican voters to represent them. The problem with the MDGOP and the central committees is that they keep doing the same thing and think we'll get different results in MD. I think that's the definition of insanity. I think it's time the GOP gets on board with ALL the candidates who are running - not just Roscoe Bartlett and Andy Harris.

Are you kidding me? The writer of the article cites "Independent" Sobhani as the only one to be advertising on television in the US Senate race for Maryland, which apparently makes him a viable candidate. Maybe, just maybe, that's due to the fact that he's pumping in his own dollars out of pocket and has virtually no financial support other than his own $30 million bank account, thinking he can buy his seat into the Senate. Or that he paid random people to collect signatures to even get his name on the ballot in the first place. The man is a joke! Sobhani claims to be an "Independent" running for US Senate to get away from the established two party system. It's almost as if he hasn't run for office TWICE as a member of those terrible parties. Oh wait, that's right! He's had two FAILED attempts at running for Maryland's US Senate seats (Once in 1992 and again in 2000). This is a man who uses the word "Independent" as a campaign term, not to identify his beliefs.

His only message I have heard so far is "they (Ben and Dan) don't like me". Wow who the hell is going to buy that? And I have no idea who you polled other than Dems. Cardin, who has gotten rich on our dime as a life long politician has voted for every tax to come down the pike. He is clusless about the economy or running a business. He just wants to continue to take (steal) our money. Bongino is the best candidate the state of MD has seen in a very long time. He understands the economy and what it is going to take to create jobs and give us our self respect back instead of handouts. All my Dem friends are voting for Bongino. They are sick of lying bastards like yourself distorting the truth. Cardin is the one that is going to take a fall. Sobhani will take some of his former supporters that are over Ben and won't vote R. Never in my liftime have I seen such a grass roots movement get behind someone like they have Bongino. And as for the same sex marriage and the other questions on the ballot you mentioned, well your report is nothing more than a fairy tale. People will come out in mass to vote against it. The Chirstians are going to vote for what they believe in and it is not the government changing the definition of marriage. Well, Dave, I suppose you you believe that Obama is ahead by 12 in Ohio. From what I've seen this election cycle "poll' stands for People Only Leaning Left. I live in Western Maryland and have never heard of this guy Sobhani before he spent a million dollars of his own money on TV ads. Who are his supporters, the ad agencies. Way too many people are put off by someone trying to buy an election for me to take him seriously. I know for a fact that Bongino has put himself in front of more Marylanders in that past year and a half than Sobhani and Cardin combined.
As for Cardin, I've been paying that SOBs salary for the past 45 years and all I've gotten for my money was his yes vote on 45 tax increases.
Perhaps if you weren't such a lazy hack, Dave, you would have given Bongino the credit he deserves when he won the primary over an opponent that was trying the same tactic as Sobhani - buying the election. I guess we'll find out on November 6 how many people are stupid enough to vote for someone because they saw him on TV a few hundred times.

He was charged with assault on a TERRORIST Steve and it is not surprising you side with the terrorist over a man who served his country well for so long. No surprise at all.
He was commanding officer when an Iraqi terrorist suspect was being interrogated and an attack was imminent on West's men. West got fed up when the terrorist said he knew the Americans could not do anything to him because of our rules of engagement. West took him out to the back and said give upo the infor or be shot in the head. The prisoner laughed and West pulled his pistol and put it to the head of the terrorist and fired a shot next to his ear. The prisoner gave upo the information and American LIVES WERE SAVED by West's actions. HJe paid a fine and then after his tour retired with no marks on his record.

Senator Ben Cardin represents the people of MD as a strong effective common sense voice. He is principled, speaks to the issues and fights for his constituents. I will be voting for Ben Cardin, because WASHINGTON, DC power bucks have not swayed Ben from his mission to serve the best interests of his constituents and his country. The Dream ACT is fair treatment of MD kids, and all God's children deserve a chance to be the best they can be. I will never get used to seeing acts of endearment between same sex couples in public but that is my problem, not theirs. Marriage is a contract between two people. So, marriage equality seems reasonable. I strongly opposed and still think it unwise to expand gambling/gaming in MD. So, I will vote NO on Question 7. Arundel Mills was a big mistake. And the deal, reducing the taxpayer share of slots revenue and making CARDS/tables % so low it is ludicrouse. O'Malley put it on the ballot. It is up to voters to accept or reject the best deal the legislators could get out of the gaming HOGS.

Maryellen Brady: typical talking points from the liberal left. "...and all God's children deserve a chance to be the best they can be." Just throw the kids in the mix and hearts are supposed to melt and minds turn to mush. Ben Cardin has the most abysmal record on schools. After all his years in office (in both the Maryland Legislature and now the Senate) the public schools in Baltimore and Prince George's County are the worst in the state. I thought the Dems were supposed to be the saviors of the poor blacks??? Where is the disconnect Maryellen?
You want to use our tax money to once again reward illegals for crossing the border ILLEGALLY by giving their kids a tax break. No one denies these kids an education. After all, they get K-12 for free and can certainly apply to college anywhere they want to. Now you want us - who pay taxes - (and don't try to tell me their parents pay taxes….they are undocumented for crying out loud!) to pay for their college education too! Why don't you reach into your own wallet voluntarily and pay for their tuition. Leave my wallet alone.

Ms. Brady,
Good morning. I disagree with your assessment that Senator Cardin represents the people of Maryland as a strong effective common sense voice, and I know that he does not fight for his constituents. I will not be voting for Senator Cardin (you may wish to call this "term limits"). I do not yet know for whom I will be voting, but the two alternative candidates both look good to me.
The Dream Act is not fair as it values a group of people who should not be in America in the first place. Federal and State legislation should be for the benefit of American citizens and those who are lawfully present in our land, and not for those who should not be here. Legislation such as the Dream Act only encourages more illegal immigration.
I will vote against the Dream Act.
The Marriage Equality issue. I was for Marriage between homosexuals, but was greatly put off when the Marriage Equality people united with the Dream Act types. Because of this I will not vote for or against this issue.
Gambling: I live in Montgomery County and would like to see all forms of gambling right here, but that will not happen, as the County Council knows better than I, how to spend or not spend my disposable income. Additionally, I am loath to vote against that, which another county wants, so I will vote for gambling. I am more loath to see Marylander's go to other states to gamble.

But as usual, you people think the state ends at Hagerstown, and as for Cardin, he could care less, he's never here - at least Dan Bongino physically goes all over the state to learn what makes each area unique and important - Sobhani is an ass trying to buy his way in, Cardin is just an ass - at least Dan is willing to work for the job, not buy. What has he done except run around cutting ribbons everywhere, and that Sobhani dude, wow he reads his commercials from a teleprompter it seems...Maryland is calling out for help. Maybe some of you should take the time to listen to all of Dan Bongino's speeches on YOU TUBE.

@Dave, I find Sobhani's commercials annoying!!! At least Dan Bongino is spreading the word by driving or walking the whole state of MD., it is kind of hard to that by T.V. and this guy acts like he is going to cure cancer...give me a frickin break...If there was only Sobhani & Cardin running I would write in Mickey Mouse...thank God for Dan Bongino...

I love how mad these Republicans are that after several months of campaigning their candidate is at 22%, no one wants a far right tea party conservative in Maryland, your party is falling apart, Romney is set to lose the election by I predict a bigger gap than McCain, and all you can do is complain about Sobhani when you should really be concerned about Cardin who's worsening our state debt. Bongino may be working hard and may be smart, but Maryland doesn't want his policies. You can tell how frustrated people are that someone has broken through the two party system, tell me if you are really bothered by Sobhani spending his own money, do you want campaign reform to prevent it ? Are you against Super Pacs and Pacs ? Or is a rich candidate only acceptable (Romney) if he's running as a Republican ?

Yes OooOBubbles, but where and who did they poll? If they had polled in Western MD, it would be 70% Bongino. These polls mean nothing. We all know how skewed they are. And yes, campaign reform needs to happen. They problem is there is always a loop hole. Everyone should be on a level playing field. The real polls show Romney up by 8%. The Dem's didn't have a problem with the extreme wealth of Kerry and now Romney's money is an issue. Can't have it both ways. What we really need is voter ID and stop dead people from voting.

BobbleHead - I hate to burst your OooOBubbles, but Bongino is not a tea partier. While the tea partiers were in Washington D.C. and other places throughout the country protesting about higher taxes and the ObamaCare bill, Bongino was protecting the POTUS's butt as a Secret Service Agent. Putting his life on the line to keep THAT guy's life from being taken out by some nut job, because that was his job.
No matter what the poll shows, Bongino does have the support of the people of Maryland and the election will prove that out.

Amy come on, of course he wasn't at the rally in D.C. as a secret service agent I doubt you are allowed to attend any political events, he was doing his job. Now that he no longer is a SS agent he is working the Tea Party supporters. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xu79dA-ddFQ Tea Party Rally ? Endorsed by Sarah Palin ? He will be the keynote speaker at the Cecil County Tea Party on Saturday, Sept. 29th ? He received PAC money from FreedomWorks, a tea party group supported by the billionaire Koch brothers ? Why is supporting the Tea Party movement something to be ashamed of ? I don't disagree with the general concept.

All that think this Sobhahi is a breath of fresh air.....has anyone stopped to ask themselves where he is getting all this money from......has anyone "googled" his name?? Where has he lived for most of his life......maybe if you did a little research and stopped watching and listening to the "boob" tube you just might be able to make an educated decision. Dan Bongino is the real deal. He is honest and straight forward.......to MaryEllen, if you think Cardin represents you think again.......look at his voting record.......maybe that's the kind of person you want in Washington, that's your right........he's not someone I want to represent me and I certainly don't want someone that has lived MOST of his life in IRAN......to represent me either!! I'm voting for Daniel Bongino.......he is the best person for the job.

His Wikipedia page also says he made his money as a consultant creating business for American companies, are we as Republicans ashamed of someone succeeding in business now ? Cardin has made millions as a politician how is that possible ? I can't believe Bongino supporters are wasting their time going after Sobhani when Cardin is the real threat. I agree. The republicans have spent the last 30 years trying to privatize SS and dismantle Medicare and the social safety net. Not to enhance the security of working families, but to stuff the pockets of WALL STREET Thugs. Ben Cardin and other Ds have stood in the way of those persistant irresponsible drives to shrink the middle class long term security. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) stopped the Bush drive to privatize SS. Ben Cardin serves his enlightened MD constituency with the decency, humanity and intelligence we deserve.

When did the Republican Party become the party of far right christian idealogues? I cannot for the life of me remember a time when the Republican party was literally running solely on the platform of 1)Anti-same sex marriage, 2) anti-abortion 3)Well I am better than the other guy.
I used to identify very heavily with little (r)s and over the years have increasingly become shunned by a party whose very mistake is to 'target' a very small sector of the electorate.
The democrats ran their entire 2004 campaign against Bush on the premise that "we are just better than him", and they were defeated, no, they were destroyed. It was an embarrassment for the party, and even more so a lesson in how to not run a campaign. Now the Republican party is trying to do the exact same thing while simultaneously creating a niche for itself as the sole representatives of a section of this nation that is so limited, that it almost screams to be called something new.
If ever there is a time for a third party it is now. The American Institution Party anyone? A party whose goals are to 1) Boost the American Economy and global competitiveness 2)Reduce wasteful spending (do you want a $billion bomb? Or should we provide assistance to needy families?) 3) Rebuilding failing infrastructure (For example, US railroads are built to transport from ports IN, not from the mid-west To the ports, increased infrastructure would reduce shipping costs and increase competitiveness)

A poll only tabulates responses to the question(s). It does not factor in the non-responses which have historically proven to be approximately 50% of those polled. The only benefit of a poll is the financial compensation to those who conduct it. In short, you would have a better "chance" predicting the weather.

This gap is most prominent between older adults who are unaware of etiquette and do not understand trolling as anonymous arguing for the sake of arguing; and younger users whom use different forums and message boards based on their various levels of 'appropriate' use and etiquette.
Anonymity should not give you the right to troll every post, providing distasteful or rude comments, devoid of any actual useful or insightful political or intellectual discourse. This is just not the forum that type of behavior.
