Almost two dozen Hyattsville residents have signed up to participate in The Small Town Energy Program (STEP) since its launch in July. The STEP team will be staffing a booth at the upcoming Downtown Hyattsville Arts Festival on Saturday, Sept. 22 from 11 AM to 5 PM, at Baltimore Ave. and Jefferson St. in the Gateway Arts District. Hyattsville residents who drop by the STEP booth can enter a drawing for a chance to win $500 in energy-efficiency improvements to their home!

Funded by the US Dept. of Energy, the goal of STEP is to make it easy and affordable for Hyattsville residents to lower their energy bills through home energy efficiency improvements.  STEP provides rebates that range from $400 - $4,650 to help homeowners get the work done.  In addition, low interest loans are available to qualified participants through an agreement with Sandy Spring Bank to help make the improvements.

One of the most innovative benefits of STEP is free support from Energy Coach Suzanne Parmet.  Suzanne makes the energy evaluation and improvement process easy, working with homeowners to answer questions, guide them through every step of the program, and ensure that they receive every financial incentive.

STEP is currently running in Hyattsville, College Heights Estates, Riverdale Park and University Park.

Interested residents are urged to learn more at www.smalltownenergy.org, or to contact STEP Energy Coach Suzanne Parmet at (240) 695-3991 or energycoach@smalltownenergy.org.
