Red Baraat at the Prince George’s Publick Playhouse for the Performing Arts
Red Baraat—the popular, Brooklyn-based Indian drum and brass-heavy group –will perform at the Prince George’s Publick Playhouse for the Performing Arts for one night only, Friday, November 30 at 8 pm.
Blaring a Delhi-jazz mix in New York style full of funk, go-go and Latin has made them one of the hottest big bands anywhere.
The nine-piece ensemble is led by Sunny Jain on dhol (a northern-India, double-sided, barrel-shaped drum slung over one shoulder) and backed by drumset, mixed percussion, sousaphone and five horns. It's a bold sound full of infectious Bhangra rhythms blended with all the heat and beats of America's multicultural urban centers. In just three years, Red Baraat has gathered standing-room-only audiences across New York.
Tickets for their one-night-only appearance at the Publick Playhouse for the Performing Arts are $15. For reservations call 301-277-1710; 301-277-0312 TTY.
The performance is supported by a generous grant from the Mid-Atlantic Arts Alliance. All programs at the Publick Playhouse are made possible in part by a grant from the Maryland State Arts Council, an agency dedicated to cultivating a vibrant cultural community where the arts thrive.
The Publick Playhouse is a facility of the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission Department of Parks and Recreation.
