Get Out - Local Events Happening September 9 - 11

Don't let the rain ruin your weekend, here are some interesting events happening this weekend September 9 – 11.

All Weekend

Prince George’s County Fair – Maryland’s oldest running fair will be featuring camel rides, bull riding, barrel races, a horse pull competition, and plenty of animals. The fairgrounds are located at 14900 Pennsylvania Avenue, Upper Marlboro. Hours: Friday 5 p.m. – 11 p.m., Saturday 11 a.m. – 11 p.m., Sunday 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. Note: the fair was scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. Thursday afternoon but has been canceled due to flooding in Upper Marlboro, according to Prince George's County Executive Rushern Baker.

Friday – September 9

– Bring your kids and their bikes for a bike rodeo to learn about bicycle safety. A course will be set up and free helmets will be given out. The event will take place from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. at the Hyattsville Municipal Building, 4310 Gallatin St., Hyattsville.

Saturday – September 10

– The Prince George’s Plaza Community Center will hold a ribute in honor of U.S. Soldiers to mark the 10th anniversary of the September 11 attacks. Food will be provided, the event runs from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m., at 6600 Adelphi Road, Hyattsville.

ArtDC Special Reception – Local artists will be gathering at ArtDC Gallery, 5710 Baltimore Avenue, Hyattsville, from 8 p.m. - 10:30 p.m. for the performance of two bands and to promote the ongoing 12”x12” small works show that is running from September 4 to October 2. The bands are DC Improvisers Collection and Atomic Order of Four String Transcendentalism. The event is free.

Sunday – September 11

Sunday Bike Ride – Arrow Bicycle will be hosting their weekly Sunday bike ride at 9 a.m. The group meets at the bike shop at 5108 Baltimore Avenue, Hyattsville and departs at 9:15 a.m. for a 32-mile moderately placed bike ride. 

Memorial Concert – First United Methodist Church will be holding a free memorial concert in observance of the 10 year anniversary of 9/11. The event is open to all and will start at 3 p.m. The Church is located at 6201 Belcrest Road, Hyattsville.
