Local Man Shines in YouTube Sandy Dispatches

Introducing Roberto Basilico, Italian actor-filmmaker-weather reporter extraordinaire.

Readers, I have failed you.

In my attempts to keep you up to date on the local effects of Hurricane Sandy as she swept the banks of our fair city, I somehow did not notice a series of dispatches from Avondale in Chillum resident which fully encapsulate the horror of Sandy's local effects.

Now, belatedly, I give you Roberto Basilico, who urgently (and seemingly earnestly) posted two updates from the storm. Basilico, who presents himself as a budding actor and filmmaker on his YouTube channel, shows us how he prepped for the storm by blocking water from his basement and his power generator. He also went out in the midst of the storm later on in the evening and comically tried to shout over gusts of wind to deliver his report.

At points he seems genuinely terrified.

Now, I don't know much about Basilico, and I have no idea how many hurricanes he has been through in his life, but it's amusing now in retrospect to watch as he–seemingly earnestly–urgently updating us on Sandy as she passed through in his sweetly Italian accented English.

Who wants more Basilico local news videos? I sure do.
