Concerned For Canine: Lost Dog May Be In Hyattsville

What follows is a letter Patch received about a lost dog who is thought to be wandering around Hyattsville. Have you seen her?

My name is Kelly Parker and I am one of the cofounders of the all breed dog rescue group PAWS New England.

We are currently searching for a dog that was lost while in the care of a local foster. She has been missing for 43 days and we just flew in her best dog friend from Vermont last weekend to aid in the search.

The dog's name is Lilly and she was originally found wandering in Tennessee with her best friend (a named Cheyenne). She was shot at by someone who thought that was the most effective way to get dogs off his property and came to us nearly starved to death, with multiple injuries, and deathly afraid of people.

Lilly spent four years in a sanctuary in Missouri where she was deemed unadoptable because she was so shy and fearful, but PAWS strongly believed she would thrive in a quiet, patient home and brought her up to Washington, D.C. to get her Cinderella happy ending.

Sadly, we could not find a local foster for Cheyenne and the girls got split up. Cheyenne went to foster care in Vermont.

Most unfortunately, Lilly was missing within four days of arriving in the District. She was lost in an area completely unfamiliar to her and she is a nervous wreck.

We have implemented everything we can think of to find her. We have sent out three FindToto calls, sent out Pet Harbor post cards to 1,000 neighbors, posted over a thousand fliers, set up three humane traps that are patrolled by volunteers 24 hours a day, hired a dog tracker, appealed on the radio, and been out in Little Branch Park by the Beltsville Community Center daily looking for her.

Lilly was lost on June 28. It has been 43 days since her disappearance.

As we have had multiple sightings in the neighborhoods surrounding the park, we flew her best friend Cheyenne from Vermont to this area with the volunteer organization Pilots n Paws to help find her.

Cheyenne arrived via a private plane to Frederick and has been out walking around the Beltsville Community Center recently hoping to lure in her best friend. This has truly become an extreme rescue effort.

We believe Lilly has traveled south into Hyattsville following the water source that originated in the park.

There is a large reward offered for her return. Anyone who has any information can contact me at 617-620-9144.
