DMV Film Fest Announces Schedule

The newly relocated DMV International Film Festival has released its screening schedule.

Unfortunately, it's a bit short of its ambitious 25 films promised in initial press releases  

Instead, the festival will screen two international feature films, one local documentary and two short films. 

The festival kicks off on Friday, June 15 with the opening night feature Chocolate City, which runs for 45 minutes beginning at 5:45 p.m. The locally produced documentary tells the story of the gentrification of Southeast Washington, D.C. through the eyes of the poor residents forced to move as a result of soaring property values. 

Following an intermission, opening night's encore presentation Charlie Cassanova will be screened. The 90 minute feature from 2010, produced on zero budget in Dublin, Ireland, tells the tale of a sociopathic elitist who, after killing a girl in a hit and run, decides to turn his fate over to the random chance of a deck of cards...somehow. 

On Saturday, June 16, the film festival will be the site of The Actors Incentive workshop with casting director Winsome Sinclair. The workshop runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. 

Beginning at 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 17, the film festival closes with two short films, La Tragedia Del Hombre Hueco or The Hollow Man's Tragedy, a 16 minute short film from Spain tells the story of, quite simply, a man with no heart.

Following that is the Audience Choice short film Stanley Pickle, which runs 11 minutes. The British animated film tells the story of an overgrown boy whose life is turned upside down when he meets an unusual woman. 

The closing night feature is Tin Can Man, (not Tin Man, as the original press release announced) which runs from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. This minimalist 2007 Irish horror film...is an Irish minimalist horror film? Honestly, it's hard to synopsize this no-budget movie based on the trailer alone. 

Tickets, which can be bought online or at the door, cost $10 per day.

The Brentwood Arts Exchange at the Gateway Arts Center is located at 3901 Rhode Island Avenue in Brentwood, Md.
