Fans Bid Farewell to Harry Potter

Fans of the Harry Potter film series flocked to the Hyattsville Regal Cinema to say their goodbyes.

So long Harry!

It was Hogwarts-mania last night! With an opening day sales record of $92 million, it was no shock to see hundreds of movie-goers flock to the to witness the final showdown between young wizard, Harry Potter and his arch-nemesis Voldemort.

On any other day, it would be unusual to see people wearing cloaks and wizard hats, but not last night. Everyone from movie employees to movie patrons donned the signature Potter glasses and magic wands from the franchise.

Kari "Lastrange," a Temple Hills resident, dressed as Bellatrix, a character from the film series. Unashamed of her wardrobe choice, the Harry Potter fanatic boldly shared her love of the pop culture phenomenon for everyone to see.

"I was not going to miss the last one”, she said. “All the other movie theaters were sold out near my house, so I came all the way here. I think I may see it again after this.”

For some movie patrons like Takoma Park resident Susan Sessum it was their second time seeing the film.

"I saw the film when it first opened at midnight”, said Sessum. “Some friends wanted to see it, so I thought I would tag along. I am a huge Harry Potter fan.”

According to fans like Sessum, the final Harry Potter doesn’t just represent the end of the epic film series. It’s a farewell to an icon.

“I guess you can say we [fans] are all saying goodbye to him,” said Sessum.
