Five Things You Need To Know Today

About Hyattsville...

Rise and shine, Hyattsville! Here are the five things you need to know today about weather, local schools and politics.

  1. Today the City of Hyattsville begins processing absentee ballots for this year's municipal elections, which will be held May 3. You can view the absentee ballot form on the city's website.  Residents do not need to present a reason for voting in absentia.
  2. According to weather.com our sunrise this morning will be at 6:47 a.m. Today’s weather won’t be so sunny though. The site predicts it will be windy with rain early in the day and a mix of sun and clouds in the afternoon. Temperatures will take a nosedive after yesterday’s high 80s climes with a high of only 58 degrees today. There’s an 80 percent chance of rain which and about a quarter of an inch will accumulate. Winds could occasionally gust over 40 mph.
  3. Robert J. King, Jr. Memorial Park is back open for adventures, in case you missed the notice on the city’s website last week. The park has been cleaned up after diesel oil was found flooding a water fountain in March.
  4. Need mulch? Residents can load up on free mulch, available at Magruder Park, Heurich Park and the University Hills Neighborhood Park. Look for the green sign by the mulch pile. If you arrive to find just slim pickins’, give the city a call at 301-985-5032.
  5. Finally, have you ever thought of joining the Northwestern High School PTSA? You don’t have to join to attend meetings, but if you’re interested, contact Irvin Moore, the current PTSA president.
