Happy Wednesday, Hyattsville! Here are five things you need to know today:

 

1. Yep, it’s summer and the beautiful weather makes us want to get out and get in shape. Be careful though! Make sure to keep water with you when you go out for extended times or you might dehydrate.

2. There’s a code enforcement committee meeting from 7 to 9 p.m. at City Hall. Show up if you want to know more about how Hyattsville code works.

3. The Prince George's County Board of Education has approved a FY 2012 budget of $1.6M. This budget is $10M beyond the requested budget, but still falls $73.8M short of the original proposed budget for FY 2012.

4. Earlier this year Hyattsville was passed up as the location of the Department of Health and Human Services offices. According to the Washington Business Journal, the General Services Administration must re-evaluate offers after awarding the project to The JBG Cos. Parklawn building in Rockville in March, the Government Accountability Office said in a June 20 ruling on bid protests by losing teams. The GAO said the GSA will have to re-award the 900,000-plus-square-foot lease to the team that best meets the solicitation criteria if, at the end of its evaluation, it finds that the Parklawn building was not the winning bidder.
