Five Things You Need To Know Today (The Hy-Five)

Now that Windpocalypse2011 has blown away, we can expect a mostly clear day at 68-degrees, Hyattsville. Here’s today’s five things you need to know:

  1. Tomorrow starting at 9 a.m. is Mary Prangley Clean Up Day. If your address receives trash collection through the City of Hyattsville Department of Public Works, you will receive a special collection on Saturday. Put your trash curbside no later than 8:55 a.m. Not sure if you're included? Call 301-985-5032.
  2. Do you have your ticket to the 32nd Annual Historic Hyattsville House Tour? In celebration of the City of Hyattsville’s 125th anniversary, the self-guided tour, sponsored by the Hyattsville Preservation Association, will include 10 unique sites: a castle-like stone armory listed on the National Register of Historic Places that is now home to a church; homes with unique collectibles, art and restored interiors; an organic flower and plant garden featured in an upcoming Smithsonian TV special; a stone church; and a large 1800s manor undergoing major renovations. The tour is on May 15. Get your tickets in advance at Franklin’s or City Hall for $10.
  3. Got drugs? Tomorrow you can turn in your unused or expired prescription drugs for safe disposal at City Hall. More than 121 tons of drugs were collected at more than 3,000 sites during the last collection.
