Where/When: City Hall, 4310 Gallatin St. / 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Friday
Why Go: Grab some rib-stickin’ grub (burgers, chicken, hot dogs) provided and prepared by Outback Steakhouse while jamming to some Motown music. Make a pit stop at the beer and wine garden while kids enjoy a moon bounce, Mandy the Clown and a face painter. City staff will also provide a take-home craft project for kids.

2. Hyattsville Elementary School PTA’s Native Plant Sale
Where/When: Hyattsville Elementary School / 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday; 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday
Why Go: Nearly 50 plant types available. All proceeds benefit the PTA’s work.
Price: Free
3. 32nd Annual Historic House Tour
Where/When: Starts at City Hall, 4310 Gallatin St. / 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday
Why Go: In celebration of the City of Hyattsville’s 125th anniversary, this self-guided tour includes 10 unique sites: a castle-like stone armory; several charming homes with unique collectibles, art and restored interiors; an organic flower and plant garden; a stone church; and a large 1800s manor.
Price: $12 per adult day of event. $10 advance tickets, on sale at City Hall and Franklin’s Restaurant.
4. Reithoffer Carnival
Where/When: First United Methodist Church of Hyattsville / Evenings until May 15
Why Go: Rides for all ages, dino-sized turkey legs and all the other fun and games you could want.
Price: $2 admission. Tickets separate. Rides, games vary.
Where/When: Riversdale House Museum, 4811 Riverdale Road / 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday
Why Go: Celebrate ancient Rome as you watch ancient battle reenactments and view a catapult demonstration. There will be an architecture scavenger hunt, house tours and more.
Price: $5 adults; $3 students.
6. May Fair
Where/When: University Park Elementary, 4315 Underwood St. / 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday
Why Go: All town residents and friends are invited to enjoy food, a bake sale, make-and-take crafts, carnival games and prizes, a moon bounce, horse and pony rides, miniature golf, jousting, a basket raffle and entertainment.
Price: Tickets on sale at venue.
7. Gateway Arts District Open Studio Tour
Where/When: 3901 Rhode Island Ave., Brentwood / noon to 5 p.m. Saturday
Why Go: Fifteen venues, 70 studios, 120 artists. Ceramics, papermaking and origami, warm and hot glass, painting, photography, mosaic, mixed-media, sculpture, metal, jewelry and more.
Price: Free
Where/When: Hyattsville library / 5 p.m. Monday
Why Go: Your original artwork could grace the front cover of the library system's magazine, Current. Enter your work in a library-sponsored contest. Submit artwork as a high resolution JPEG or PDF file to publicrelations@pgcmls.info. This is the deadline! The winner's art will be featured as the cover for the fall 2011 issue of Current.

9. Coming Home: How the African-American Experience in WW II Shaped Prince George’s County
Where/When: Gallery 110, 3901 Rhode Island Ave., Brentwood / noon to 5 p.m. daily
Why Go: Coming Home features pictures, artifacts, and memorabilia from World War II, but most importantly stories from black soldiers whom have connections to Prince George’s County. There are more than 77,000 veterans in the county and their influence in the county cannot be denied. Along with the exhibition, the museum is launching an oral history project to document the stories of African-American veterans in the county

10. Midnight Java
Where/When: McGinty's Public House, 911 Ellsworth Drive, Silver Spring / 10 p.m. Friday
Why Go: Philly band Midnight Java will be performing cover songs of 80s bands.
