Giselle Prince-Torain put her artistic stamp on a block of a pathway at the library Tuesday afternoon, using greens and pinks to craft a “dungle rock.”

The four-year-old’s mother, Grace, isn’t sure quite what the chalk painting represents, but that hasn’t stopped Giselle from re-creating her art over and over.

“I’m not quite sure what a dungle rock is, but she draws them often, and will get quite upset if you draw them with a mouth or a nose,” she said.

Prince-Torain brings two of her children out to the library about four times a week. Giselle enjoys story time once a week and playing computer games.

Danielle Cayea-Wilson, the branch’s children’s librarian who ran the chalk art station, said today’s activity was part one of the chalk program, with the second part for ages 6-13 happening at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday.

“With this year’s theme being ‘One World, Many Stories,’ the kids can tell their own stories with chalk,” she said.

Story time for children ages 2-3 and 3-5 also happened today at the Hyattsville Branch. Tuesday at 2 p.m. the Maryland Science Center will be visiting and at 4 p.m. is “Books are Real Fun!” or “B.A.R.F.”, a creative read aloud book club for children ages 6-8.

Be sure to check out the Upcoming Events site as there are plenty of activities at the Hyattsville Branch for the young and young at heart.
