Artdc Gallery Gets Glassy in New Exhibit

Silica gets limelight in new Hyattsville art exhibit.

Artdc's Gallery is host to a series of transparent–or at least translucent–artworks produced by area glass artists.

The exhibit, entitled Glass 2012, showcases 10 artists from the Hyattsville-based glass blowing and sculpture studio DC GlassWorks. The full list of artists can be found on Artdc's website.

The show was curated by Joseph Corcoran, whose works have been included in a number of regional art exhibitions since he started producing work at DC GlassWorks in 2004. Corcoran is currently an instructor for DC GlassWorks

For gallery manager Grayson Heck, glass is a sometimes under appreciated artistic medium. He said the show brings together a diverse group of artists, each doing unique things with glass.

"It's the medium itself. The way it captures light and plays with light," said Heck in an interview. "I like how this group of artists mixes mediums with glass work."
