Wood Sculpture Goes Against Grain at Artdc

Hyattsville art show highlights wood as medium for artistic expression.

The Artdc Gallery in downtown Hyattsville will be sporting some serious wood this weekend.

Wood sculptures, that is. 

The gallery will be holding an opening reception for its new exhibition of contemporary wooden sculptures, entitled Against the Grain, this Saturday, July 7 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

"Contemporary wood art has evolved to a new level with the use of modern tools to create sculptures and kinetic works," according to an announcement sent to Patch. "These works rub against the grain of traditional sculpture in a new direction."

The show will feature the work of wood sculptors Anthony Comes, Camden Place, Emma Holland Denvir, Grayson Heck, Ian McDermott, Kelly Guerrero, Levon Kojoyan, Mark Earnhart, Pat McGowan, Richard Brown, Ryan McKibbin and Teddy Brice.

There will be refreshments served, and Neil Cotterill of the band Infinite Honey will provide a musical accompaniment to the evening. 

The Artdc gallery is located in the Lustine building at 5710 Baltimore Avenue in Hyattsville.
