Workshops to Teach Business of Art

A series of workshops in Brentwood aims to teach local budding and experienced artists alike how to better manage the business side of their creativity.

A free workshop series at the Brentwood Arts Exchange aims to give artists a primer in good business practices. Organizers hope the skills imparted at the workshops will help local artists make more informed business decisions. 

"Artists spend most of their training focused on being a better artist," said Michael Gumpert, executive director of the Gateway Community Development Corporation. "Artists that choose to make this into a career, they often find that they have to spend an inordinate amount of time getting work and making that work more profitable."

"When the artists succeed and prosper, our towns will succeed and prosper," said Gumpert. "We just want to make sure they have all the tools and skills necessary to help make them more prosperous."

The workshops are presented by the Gateway Community Development Corporation in partnership with the Prince George's Arts and Humanities Council, the Maryland National Capital Parks and Planning Commission and the Washington Project for the Arts

All the workshops are free and open to the public. They are held at the Brentwood Arts Echange at the Gateway Arts Center at 3901 Rhode Island Avenue in Brentwood. Participants are encouraged to register online at the count parks Brentwood Arts Exchange website.
