Tell Prince George's County Council "NO" on Re-Validation of Sprawl

On Wednesday, October 2, the PZED Committee will consider three bills that would extend validity periods on preliminary subdivision plans, detailed site plans, and specific design plans for the fifth year in a row. Most of these plans would have expired long ago, had it not been for these continual extensions. And most of the development at issue is in proposed new subdivisions of single family homes outside of the Beltway, far away from transit.

The Planning Department (M-NCPPC) stated that this backlog in the development pipeline is bad for Prince George's County, in that it interferes with the county's efforts to develop around Metro stations and revitalize exiting single-family communities. It also doesn't put us on good footing to capture future demand for housing. By simply doing nothing, the council can significantly reduce the backlog in the development pipeline, while supporting smart growth and TOD.

Please take a moment to let PZED Chair Mel Franklin and the committee know that you oppose further extensions on validity periods on approved, but unbuilt, development in the pipeline. Ask them to table CB-70, CB-71, and CB-75.
