Arts District Wins Statewide Award

Hyattsville hotspot top spot for economic development, says state development association.

The arts oriented, mixed use development along Hyattsville's downtown Route 1 corridor was recognized recently as 2012's top economic development project in the state by the Maryland Economic Development Association. 

Laurie Boyer, MDEA president, said that the development was an economic "home run."

"Its mixed-use design, green sensibilities and retail offerings are creating an economic renaissance in Hyattsville," said Boyer in a press release. 

Dubbed the , the new-urbanist neighborhood was built by Bethesda-based developers EYA beginning back in 2006. Since then, retail and residential project has grown to include restaurants, retail shopping and an organic grocery store.

"The Arts District Hyattsville epitomizes the type of investment, development, retail and residential attraction my administration is aggressively trying to replicate throughout the county, specifically in our inside-the-beltway communities," said County Executive Rushern Baker III in a press release issued by the Prince George's County Economic Development Corporation.
