Holiday Craziness in Hyattsville

It was a typical whirlwind holiday shopping season at The Mall at Prince George's in Hyattsville this year.

Christmas 2011 is officially over and now that the wrapping paper and bows have been stowed for another year, Patch thought you might like to know what the major crazes were during the holiday’s mad rush.

Midnight of Dec. 22 marked the release of the highly acclaimed Jordan sneaker— 'The Concords.' The shoes brought in lines of anxious teens and parents inside and outside The . Many customers waited in line for up to eight hours only to find out that the popular shoe had been sold out.

On the night before Christmas Eve, late night shoppers scrounged around the mall, its parking lot near capacity and the inside stores filled with shoppers taking advantage of the last minute deals and steals before the big day.

Fragrance retailer Jessy Morales worked at the store since it opened from 7 to 10:30 a.m. and again at noon.

"It [was] very busy since the store opened,” she said. “Every now and then it would slow down for about 30 minutes and then pick back up.”

The most popular brands Morales saw flying off the shelves were Dolce & Gabanna, Gucci, Prada, Calvin Klein and Givenchy.

One of this year’s quirky shopping experiences was an “i” vending machine near the men’s department inside Macy’s. The kiosk is full of Apple products and shoppers can select their purchase, insert payment and take home their technology only a moment later.

Late to this, but Christmas 2011 is NOT officially over! Christmas starts on the 25th, and ends on January 7th, which is the feast of the Epiphany. You know, the whole "12 Days of Christmas" thing?
