Hyattsville Author Excited About New Busboys

Local author Richard Morris talks about what Busboys and Poets will bring to the city.

It’s official, has been

Amid the sea of faces around on opening day, Patch caught up with the Hyattsville author to get his opinion on Hyattsville’s new Busboys and Poets, a venue for artists, authors and performers to nourish the community.

Morris, a Vietnam vet whose works include “Cologne No 10 for Men,” a war satire compared to the likes of Catch-22 and M.A.S.H., said he is no stranger to the restaurant and all it has to offer.

Previously, you could find the wordsmith at the U-Street Busboys, which he frequented to listen to other authors and attend A.C.T.O.R. meetings.

But Morris is not a thespian.

A.C.T.O.R., which stands for “A Continuing Talk On Race,” is a Busboys and Poets hosted open discussion on issues of race. According to the restaurant’s website, the intent for the monthly series is that “each person walks away from the discussion feeling something—challenged, uncomfortable, enlightened, refreshed or reassured.”

As for the Hyattsville Busboys, Morris believes it will have just as many interesting programs to offer, so he is excited that it’s close. He will be speaking at the new restaurant along with three other authors on July 28 to talk about their perspective books.

Morris describes the cultural and artistic scene of Hyattsville as an evolving one. And with this new addition, locals will have an opportunity to relish its serene atmosphere and, of course, enjoy the amazing food.

“There are a lot of pluses to having it here in Hyattsville … It’s just a great place, and we’re looking forward to coming and enjoying ourselves here over the years.”
