Supporters and Opponents of Maryland Question 7 Square Off
WASHINGTON (October 23, 2012) - The Howard University Radio Network will host a live broadcast taking a critical look at Question 7 on the Maryland November 6th ballot. The two-hour special edition of the “Daily Drum” hosted by veteran newsman Harold Fisher will air both on WHUR 96.3FM and HUR-Voices SiriusXM 141 on Thursday, October 25th from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Question 7 is the hotly contested gaming expansion referendum. If approved, the measure would increase the number of lottery terminals in Maryland, allow for a Las Vegas style casino in Prince George’s County and would permit table gambling at casinos in the state. Both sides of the issue have spent millions of dollars trying to woo voters to their side.
“We understand this is a very contentious issue where voters need more than a 30 and 60-second answer. We wanted to provide our listeners with the opportunity to hear and ask questions of those on both sides of the debate. This broadcast puts the decision-makers under one roof to face the voters,” said Howard University Radio Network General Manager Jim Watkins.
The two-hour broadcast will consist of two panels with the following guests who will be live in studio at WHUR 96.3FM, located at 529 Bryant Street, NW Washington, DC:
Thomas V. “Mike” Miller – Maryland State Senate President (For)
Wayne Curry – Former Prince George’s County Executive (For)
Peter Franchot – Maryland State Comptroller (Against)
Gerron Levi – Former Maryland State Delegate and member of Stop Maryland Slots (Against)
Dr. Delman Coates – Senior Pastor at Mount Ennon Baptist Church (Against)
Lisa Ellis – President of Metropolitan Business Alliance (Against)
Josh Williams – President of Metropolitan Washington AFL-CIO (For)
Ken Haynes – President of Prince George’s County Educators’ Association (For)
