JOE'S MOVEMENT EMPORIUM ANNUAL GALA "THE ART OF SOCIAL DANCE"

Joe’s Movement Emporium, Prince George’s County’s largest independent performing arts center, has announced that its annual benefit gala for 2014 will feature an evening of partner dance. The event, coined as The Art of Social Dance, will be held on March 15, 2014 from 7:00 – 10:00pm at Joe’s and include live music from 15 piece orchestra Big Band Tradition,  dancing (featuring a lesson from Smooth & EZ Hand Dance Tradition), delicious food, and drink. Guests will have the opportunity to groove to everything from tango and salsa to hand dancing and swing.

Proceeds from the event will benefit Joe’s Theater Tech Program (TTP), a workforce development initiative that serves at-risk teens in Northern Prince George’s County.  This program prepares very low income youth for employment through training in technical theater production, operation, and digital media, while also providing wrap-around services such as tutoring, college prep and life skills.  Last year 96% of TTP’s 27 students graduated from high school and went on to attend college, military or work/training opportunities.  That compares to a 72.9% graduation rate county-wide. Funding will help to serve an additional 15 students in 2014-15.

For nearly 20 years, Joe’s mission has been to promote the practice and preservation of world performance traditions with an emphasis on dance and movement.  Through programs in education, production and artist services, Joe’s increases community access to creative experiences, and create local economic opportunities.   As a cornerstone of the Gateway Arts District, Joe’s offers low-cost rehearsal space to artists, and affordable performances and classes year-round for adults and children.

Joe’s Gala Sponsors include Vocus, Pepco, O’Malley, Miles, Nylan & Gilmore, BB&T, McCartin Insurance, Law Offices of Michael D. Herman, and Joseph Greenwald Laake P.A.   The event will also be honoring Hon. Will Campos, County Council Member of District 2, for his many years of service to Joe’s Movement Emporium.

Tickets are available at $100 per individual. For sponsorship opportunities, please contact Melissa@joesmovement.org or call 301-699-1819.
