Five Things You Need to Know in Hyattsville Today (the Hy-Five)

Morning, Hyattsville! Here are five things you need to know today:

 

1. Word is we’re supposed to reach a high of 55 degrees today and only dip down to about 36 degrees tonight. Spring is in the air! (Ha! Wishful thinking).

2. Need to dump that Christmas tree? Residents can set their used trees out for collection during regular yard waste pickup. See the dates on the city website.

3. On Jan. 17 the city’s spring break camp registration opens up. Camp will run from April 2 through April 6 this year.

4. On Jan. 10 the spring semester of Hyattsville’s parent/child program begins. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Magruder Park’s recreation building.

5. On this date in 1838 Samuel Morse demonstrated his telegraph system at the Speedwell Iron Works in Morristown, NJ.
