Bladensburg Police Officer Faces Fraud Charges

Two-year veteran charged with stealing betweein $1,000 and $10,000.

The Bladensburg Police Department arrested one of its own Thursday in connection with credit card fraud, according a press release issued by the department. 

According to the release, Officer Ridwan Osanyinpeju, a private and a two-year veteran of the force assigned to the patrol division, is charged with theft between $1,000 and $10,000. 

A warrant for Osanyinpeju's arrest was issued on May 29.

Online court records indicate that the theft took place on March 4.

Osanyinpeju, a 33-year-old resident of the 3800 block of Kenilworth Avenue in Bladensburg, has made his initial appearance before the District Court Commissioner where he was remanded to the department of corrections on a $7,500 bond.

Osanyinpeju's trial is set for July 2. 

Bladensburg Chief of Police Charles Owens was not immediately available to comment.
