In their groundbreaking 1992 treatise on jumping around, Boston-based, Irish-themed hip-hop group House of Pain asserted that they had "more rhymes than there's cops at a Dunkin' Donuts shop."
Well, the esteemed members of House of Pain might have a hard time matching that boast this weekend, because not only will a number of cops be at a local Dunkin' Donuts shop, they will also be on top of it.
For charity, that is.
Members of the Hyattsville City Police Department will be gathering on the roof of the Dunkin' Donuts at 3030 Queens Chapel Road in Mount Rainier for 24 hours beginning on Saturday, Sept. 29 at 6 a.m.
"We will be there all night long!" Reads a press release from the city of Hyattville announcing the Cops on Rooftops event.
While enduring the elements on the roof of the West Hyattsville Dunkin' Donuts, police will be collecting donations for the Special Olympics of Maryland.
Last year's cops on rooftops event raised more than $5,000 for the Special Olympics of Maryland. This year's goal is to raise more than $6,000.
Police will be gathering donations from pedestrians on the street with a bucket on a fishing pole.
A $5 donation will get you a 12 oz insulated coffee cup which you can use to get a 99 cent iced coffee refill through the end of the year at Dunkin' Donuts.
If you can't spare $5 for the coffee cup donation, the police will accept donations of any size.
In addition to police officers on rooftops, there will also be a moon bounce for the kids, a 50/50 raffle, a local business gift card raffle, and a raffle for a 2012 Harley Davidson Sportster Motorcycle.
