Police Activity on Dean Drive Connected to Death Investigation

"This is potentially a crime scene," says police spokeswoman.

July 2, 4:44 p.m. - The Prince George's County Police Department combed through a section of dense woods Tuesday just outside of Hyattsville as they looked for evidence into a previous death investigation, according to police spokesperson Julie Parker.

"This is potentially a crime scene," said Parker in a brief interview on Tuesday afternoon. Additional details were not available.

Residents living in the apartment complex near the police activity said that investigators had been on the scene since before 8 a.m. on Tuesday, but police hadn't offered any details on their activities to nearby residents.

Members of the Prince George's County Police Department's Forensic Services Division, Crime Scene Investigators as well as members of the Prince George's County Police Academy's recruit class spent hours combing through the woods with rakes and shovels in search of evidence.

One resident who declined to be identified said that the area is normally quiet, but members of the MS-13 gang are believed to frequent the woods. According to the resident, many trees in the woods bear the marks of MS-13 graffiti tags.

The wooded section is located deep in the Toledo Terrace neighborhood, home to a series of modest garden-style apartment complexes nestled between the University Hills neighborhood of Hyattsville and Northwestern High School.
