Earthquake Rocks Eastern Seaboard, Hyattsville

A 5.9 magnitude quake shook up the city and sent school children out of their classrooms.

Update, 3:03 p.m.: Channel 7 news is saying that the earthquake measured a 5.9 magnitude quake.

People are reporting feeling it as far inland as Cleveland. Another earthquake rocked Colorado.

Hyattsville Sgt. Chris Purvis reported earlier that there have been no major emergencies following the quake in Hyattsville.

Update, 2:24 p.m.: The epicenter for the earthquake was in Mineral, VA. However, various news outlets are reporting that the earthquake was felt as far as the Carolinas.

Prince George's County Public Schools have been evacuated and school officials are assessing the damage. As of the moment, schools will be dismissed on time.

Update, 2:10 p.m.: The earthquake is now being measured as a 6.0 magnitude quake.

The U.S. Capitol and the Pentagon are being evacuated.

Original Post, 2:04 p.m.: An earthquake hit the Washington D.C. area and across the nation at around 2 p.m. on Tuesday.

The earthquake is measured as a 5.8 magnitude quake.
