Eight Students Hit by Car at Northwestern High School

Eight students were injured on Thursday evening when a driver lost control of his car on the grounds of Northwestern High School. 

According to the city of Hyattsville, none of the injuries appear to be life threatening. The students, members of Northwestern's Naval ROTC program, were standing in formation at the time of the incident. 

The driver was a 19-year-old Mount Rainier resident. According to the city of Hyattsville, he was not speeding at the time of the incident. The driver, who only held a learner's drivers permit, has been charged with multiple counts of negligent driving and failure to control his vehicle and one count of driving without required supervision.

City officials say that the cause of the incident appears to be sun glare.
