Halloween Arrest Nets 4 West Hyattsville Burglary Suspects

With the help of an anonymous tip to police, at least four men did not have a happy Halloween in Hyattsville yesterday when they were arrested within hours of allegedly taking part in a residential burglary on Oliver Street.

"As a result of a positive working relationship between the residents, the community and the police department, almost all of the victim’s property was recovered and returned to her and four suspects were criminally charged for their role in this crime," reads a press release from the Hyattsville City Police Department.

It began yesterday afternoon, when officers from the Hyattsville City Police Department responded to a house in the 3500 block of Oliver Street in West Hyattsville to investigate a burglary which saw several televisions, electronics and jewelry stolen sometime between 9 a.m. and 12:10 p.m.

But less than an hour and half later, at 1:36 p.m., detectives received a tip that three men were trying to sell televisions inside a business in the 3000 block of Hamilton Street.

"Suspecting this to be related to the burglary that just occurred, Hyattsville City Police communications notified the patrol units on the street," according to a press release from the Hyattsville City Police Department. "Officers immediately responded to the area and were able to block the suspect’s car into a parking space."

Arriving on scene, police saw several TVs sitting inside a nearby Hamilton Street barber shop. Police then apprehended five suspects, four men and one woman, and took them to police headquarters on Gallatin Street for questioning. 

One suspect confessed to the burglary. Police say that another suspect confessed to transporting and selling stolen property to one of the barbershop employees, who in turn confessed to buying stolen propety. The fourth suspect refused to cooperate with police.

20-year-old Clarence Jord Kirksey-Walcott of Lanahm, who police say confessed to the burglary, stands charged with first degree burglary and theft of property valued between $1,000 and $10,000. 

20-year-old Willie Randolph III of Washington, who police allege transported and fenced the stolen property, stands charged with theft of property valued between $1,000 and $10,000.

28-year-old Jeromes Antoin Jones of Chillum, who police say bought stolen property from Kirksey-Walcott and Randolph, stands charged with theft of property valued between $1,000 and $10,000.

22-year-old Markeet Tyrone Johnson, Jr., stands charged with first degree burglary and theft of property valued between $1,000 and $10,000. Johnson refused to cooperate with the police investigation. 

Police determined that the woman was not involved in the theft and had unknowingly transported the stolen goods for sale. She has not been charged with any crime. 

According to the press release, detectives from the city police department are trying to determine if there is a link between these four suspects and a rash of burglaries in West Hyattsville over recent weeks and months.
