HVFD Within Hairs Breadth of Fundraising Goal
Volunteer fire department looks to reach $5,000 raised for cancer research before March 10.
The Hyattsville Volunteer Fire Department is cutting it close to a $5,000 fundraising goal for the St. Baldrick's Foundation, a charity which funds childhood cancer research.
They are part of a group of fundraisers honoring former Bel Air volunteer fire fighter Drew Eilbacher, who died last year after being diagnosed at age 18 with an Astrocytoma Glioa Grade II brain tumor. Eilbacher completed his degree, a double major in Animal Science and Psychology, but succumbed last July.
So far, 23 participants have raised a total of $4,630 for the distinction of getting their heads shaved in solidarity with the Eilbacher family and others affected by childhood cancer. The shaving will take place at Looney's Pub in College Park on Saturday, March 10.
