Hyattsville Crime Map: Taxi Cab Carjacked

Vehicle-related crimes plague city in second week of May.

The week of May 6 was not a good week to be a car owner in Hyattsville. According to data released by the Hyattsville City Police Department, that week saw four vehicles stolen and one taxi cab carjacked. 

First, the carjacking. Police say that on May 9, at around 9 p.m., a taxi cab was stolen after the driver dropped off two fares in the 5700 block of 43rd Avenue in downtown Hyattsville. Upon reaching the destination, one of the fares brandished a handgun. The taxi driver surrendered his cab and watched as the two suspects fled toward Queensbury Road. 

Hyattsville police did not provide a description of the suspects.

There were also four vehicle thefts. According to police, a 2003 Nissan Acura was stolen sometime during the night of May 6. Then, on May 9, a 1993 Mazda was stolen during the overnight hours in the 6000 block of Jamestown Road. 

Even two wheeled vehicles were not spared. On May 11, a resident reported that a motorcycle which was parked in an apartment complex garage was stolen sometime between May 9 and May 11. The vehicle was later found in Capital Heights by officers with Prince George's County Police.

Finally, on May 12, a 1998 Dodge Ram pickup was reported stolen from its parking space in the 5800 block of 33rd Avenue. According to police, this vehicle was recovered by Prince George's County Police two days later on May 14.
