Hyattsville Man Arrested for Theft in Takoma Park

Victim was working on a construction site when his property was stolen.

Osmel Antonio Hernandez, 20, of Hyattsville, Md., was arrested for theft under $1,000 on Feb. 11 at 2:11 p.m., Takoma Park Police Chief Chief Ronald A. Ricucci said.

On Friday, Takoma Park Police were conducting a traffic detail at the intersection of Maple Avenue and Lincoln Avenue. While monitoring a stop sign, an officer noticed a Hispanic male chasing another Hispanic male, according to a police media release.

Both subjects were stopped and identified; one of the subjects was the victim of a theft. The victim was working on a construction project in the 7600 block of Maple Avenue when he noticed Hernandez pick up property that belonged to him, tuck it under his shirt and fled towards Maple Avenue, police said.

The victim chased Hernandez until they were both stopped by Takoma Park Police; the victim identified the property that was stolen using identifying marks, police said.

Hernandez was arrested and charged accordingly. He was transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit.
