Hyattsville Night Out Against Crime Tonight

Community-police event takes place at Magruder Park.

The Hyattsville City Police Department will welcome area residents and business owners to celebrate the National Night Out Against Crime tonight at Magruder Park on Hamilton Street in Hyattsville. 

The event begins at 5 p.m. and runs through 8 p.m. 

This is the 29th annual "night out" against crime, according to National Night Out, which coordinates the event in communities across the nation. According to National Night Out, the event is designed to foster partnerships between local police and community stakeholders to work together to reduce crime.

Tonight's event will feature a bicycle safety course geared (bad pun alert) for kids. Speed freaks can get their kicks on a remote control racetrack, taking on members of the police department in high-speed RC action.

Foodies: you've not been forgotten. There will be free hot dogs and snow cones, too.

The event ends with a light up the night neighborhood walk where residents, police and public officials will stroll through the city's neighborhoods.
