Laptops Burgled From Nicholas Orem

At least two laptops were stolen by a masked woman during a burglary at Nicholas Orem Middle School on Wedesday, according to school and police officials. 

At about 12:50 p.m. on Aug. 1, officers from the Prince George's County Police Department responded to Nicholas Orem Middle School for a report of a break-in. Police met with faculty members at the school and discovered that items had been stolen from the school. Two laptop computers were among the items stolen during the burglary, which is believed to have occurred on the night of July 31. 

According to Max Pugh, acting director of communications for Prince George's County Public Schools, the school is continuing to assess what other items may have been stolen from the school. 

Video surveillance cameras from the school recorded images of the burglar at work. Despite this, police only had a vague description of the suspect, a thin black woman wearing a black mask. 

Burglars looking to steal items from schools in the future might have a harder time avoiding the watchful eyes of security cameras, according to Pugh. 

"This school as well as many others in the county are slated to have additional security cameras installed beginning August 12.  These new cameras will augment what is already installed.  This is part of a major initiative this year to increase safety and security in our schools," said Pugh in an email to Patch.
