Mugging Leaves Hyattsville Man in Hospital

Man attacked in West Hyattsville in late night robbery.

A West Hyattsville resident was taken to the hospital after he was beaten during a robbery on 31st Avenue late last night.

According to Chris Purvis, public information officer for the Hyattsville City Police Department, the victim was walking along 31st Avenue near Lancer Drive when he was attacked from behind by two assailants and knocked to the ground.

According to one local resident who knows the victim, the attack happened at around 10 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 17.

Once on the ground, the victim was hit with a handgun several times. The victim was knocked unconscious for a short time as a result of the attack. 

The assailants stole property from the victim before fleeing on foot down 31st Avenue.

Police do not have a detailed description of the assailants, with Purvis describing police as being on the look out for two black males, one of whom was wearing a white tee shirt, white tennis shoes and black shorts.
