PGPD Officers Suspended For Inappropriate Video

Police chief to address reporters over suspensions during Friday night press conference.

The Prince George's County Police Department has suspended two police officers for "creating a video that is inconsistent with the values" of the community, according to a press release issued by the department late in the day on Friday.

In just an hour— at 6:30 p.m.—Prince George's County Police Chief Mark Magaw will be addressing reporters about the suspension of the two officers during a press conference at police headquarters in Palmer Park.

What exactly a "video inconsistent with the values of our community" means was not addressed in the press release. Prince George's County Police Department Media Relations Division spokesperson Cpl. Larry Johnson declined to comment further on the matter, saying that questions would be answered at the scheduled Friday night press conference.

According to the press release Magaw suspended the officers on the grounds of engaging in "unbecoming conduct".

Magaw will be joined in the press conference by Assistant Police Chief Kevin Davis, Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 89 President Vince Canales, Deputy Chief Amal Awad, and Maj. Cesar Pacheco, Commander of Internal Affairs.

I find it confusing that Greenbelt police officers will be suspended for making a video 'inconsistent with community values' but when beating a man with no reasonable explanation, the officers involved were put on PAID administrative leave.. Wouldn't beating an innocent man be inconsistent with community values as well? Something to think about...

Confused and delusional: Greenbelt police had nothing to do with the video; it was a pair of BLACK officers from P.G. County, not Greenbelt. Bad luck, huh, hater?

It's funny that the above writer had to emphasize "BLACK". Let me take a wild guess you voted for Mitt Romney!

OK, so who complained, one of the politically correct crowd? If you're in a job such as police officer, other emergency responders, military in battleground conditions, etc., many times you'll engage in pranks, etc., that may not be in the best of taste, but that help to relieve the stress, to offset the horrors, that you see on the job. These people are out there laying their lives on the line for us every day, so cut 'em some slack. Sad to see that this country has lost its sense of humor.

I agree to a point- most of those pranks aren't sent to the whole F%%%^&099 world on the internet!!!!

will old news stories be brought over to the new site?
Michael Theis (Editor) June 18, 2013 at 04:04 pm
Yeah. It seems as if some old stories, particularly ones recently posted, did not migrate over toRead More the new site, yet. Our help desk is working on this problem, and we hope to have a resolution before long.
