PHOTOS: Community Gathers for Hyattsvile Fire Department's 5 Mile Run and Open House

Local runners and members of the community were out early Saturday morning to support the Hyattsville Volunteer Fire Department's 5-mile run and open house.

About 200 people came to run, cheer on runners and explore the open house at the 5-mile road race on Saturday morning.

The event took place to raise funds for the department’s fire prevention programs and volunteer fire/EMS operations.

"It's a great event," said Deputy Fire Chief Matt Leonard, "It brings all the members [of the fire department] and the community together. It's our biggest event of the year."
