An elderly Capitol Heights man who died may have had a medical problem that caused him to crash his car into a truck in Seat Pleasant, says the Prince George's County Police Department.

Police were called to the intersection of Central Avenue and Addison Road about 10:25 a.m. Tuesday to a crash involving a car and a tow truck. Officers found Alphonso Mitchell, 88, of Morocco Street in Capitol Heights suffering from critical injuries. He was pronounced dead at a hospital a short time later.

The preliminary investigation reveals Mitchell was eastbound on Central Avenue when his vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a tow truck. Investigators believe Mitchell had a medical emergency, causing him to lose control of his car.

A passenger in Mitchell's car was seriously hurt, police said. The driver of the tow truck was not hurt. A passenger suffered minor injuries.
