Police Seek Suspect in Palette Apartments Attempted Robbery

Woman attacked in parking garage of new downtown Hyattsville apartment complex.

Hyattsville police are investigating an attempted robbery which took place at the recently opened Palette Arts District apartments in downtown Hyattsville, according to an alert message sent to city residents

The incident occurred at about 10:30 p.m. in the 5500 block of 45th Avenue. The victim told police that as she was leaving her apartment to go to the building's parking garage, she was bumped into a man in the hallway. At first, the incident seemed innocuous. The man apologized to the woman and proceeded to walk in front of the woman towards the parking garage area. The victim told police that as she entered a staircase near the parking garage, the man suddenly grabbed her, knocked her to the ground, placed a handgun against her head and demanded she turn over her money.

Police said the victim told her assailant that she did not have any money. She then began screaming. The suspect then took off on foot, running out of the parking garage towards the rear of the building.
