Thousands Receive Speed Camera Ticket Pass in Prince George's

Prince George's police operated a speed camera in Fort Washington without first notifying the public of the camera's location as required by state law.

Thousands of people who received tickets for speeding through a Fort Washington intersection will receive refunds, and others will have their tickets voided, due to what Prince George's police are calling a "technicality."

"The Prince George's County Police Department learned earlier this month that we operated a speed camera in the county without first advertising that camera's location in a newspaper. Placing those advertisements is required by state law," the department wrote on its Facebook page.

According to the statement, police thought they had advertised the camera, but it was somehow omitted from the final list printed by a local newspaper. The department also said this error was an isolated incident.
