20 Extra Troopers Set to Guard the Beltway

In the wake of Tuesday's six-vehicle accident, Operation Centipede takes effect tonight.

"Operation Centipede" shifts into high gear tonight. Maryland State Police will deploy 20 extra troopers to saturate the Capital Beltway on a mission to cut back on injuries and save lives.

In the wake of Tuesday morning's six-vehicle beltway accident near Ritchie Marlboro Road that left two people dead and two injured, the Maryland State Police have issued an early warning to drivers. Expect to see (or not) additional troopers roaming the entire length of the beltway in Prince George's County, beginning Friday night and continuing through the early morning hours of Saturday.

You may not see them coming, as they'll be in marked and unmarked vehicles. Troopers will be on the look out for aggressive, drunk, speeding, inattentive drivers and people driving recklessly or demonstrating negligence.

So if you want to waste away in Margaritaville, take along a friend who likes lemonade. You may also consider the virtues of text detoxing, packing a little patience, and putting that lipstick back in the makeup bag (I know you want to look good for the state troopers, but good driving ain't too shabby).
