City Council Preview: Jan. 9

Tonight the City Council will address the budget schedule, funding for the Crittenden Street Project, a rezoning request, lowering insurance contribution rates, a cable audit and bonuses for two city employees.

Motion Items

FY13 Budget Schedule - The Council will address the Fiscal Year 2013 Budget Schedule. The schedule is not locked in stone, meetings may be changed or added over time until the final budget is approved.

$42,215 for the Crittenden Street Project – The money would be used to design a pedestrian crosswalk to Magruder Park across Hamilton Street, design a retaining wall for the wall at Emerson Street and 40th Place, revise the approved project design to meet P.G. County environmental conditions for Stormwater Mangement, provide new surfaces for sidewalks and ramps, and lastly, to redesign the Crittenden Street/ Route 1 intersection.

Action Items

Cafritz Development Rezoning Request – recommendation and information will be provided at the Council Meeting.

Decrease in city contribution for insurance benefits – City will vote to lower its contribution rate to health, prescription and dental premiums from 80 percent to 75 percent.

Participate in PG County Cable Consortium – Council members will vote to allow city staff to participate in consortium to negotiate a renewal of the cable contract with Comcast.

Audit for Cable Franchise Fees – Council will vote to search for a firm to audit franchise fees for cable services. The Council is looking to audit Comcast and Verizon cable fees for no more than $15,000.

Discussion Items

$6,000 Bonuses for Sandel and McTague - The Council will decide whether to provide $6,000 bonuses for city employees Abby Sandel and Julia McTague for additional work. Sandel serves as Communications Director as well as acting Recreation and the Arts Director. McTague, an administrative aide, will oversee Public Works construction projects from Feb. 2 to May 2.
