Council Roundup

Here's a quick look at what the Hyattsville City Council accomplished at Monday's meeting.

Here’s a roundup of what happened at Monday night’s City Council meeting.

  • The council voted to authorize the use of about one-quarter acre of land in for a community garden supported by the Hyatt Park Community Garden Association in partnership with the city. It also authorized $10,000 from the 2008 G.O. Bond proceeds earmarked for parks improvements to install the city’s portion of water service to the property. Steve Yeskulsky, director of recreation and the arts, will be responsible for making sure additional work is completed. Additional funds will be appropriated for soil testing. Once acceptable soil reports come in, City Administrator Gregory Rose will direct that the water be turned on at the garden area.
  • After hearing testimony from a lawyer for, and from Prince George’s County police officers who work at the restaurant as security guards, the council voted to amend it’s letter to the county’s Board of License Commissioners. The council decided to offer no comment on whether the establishment should be granted an enhanced liquor license. The city initially opposed the move based on reports of criminal activity at the Ager Road restaurant.

The council is scheduled to meet for a work session on Monday at 8 p.m.
